A Word on the European Financial Crises

Obviously the Church in Corinth felt superior, powerful, and was brimming with self-confidence. In this respect it reminds me of the spirit of our time. When I read about Germany’s economic strength in the newspaper and observe how the media often treat other European nations with contempt, mainly Greece, I am reminded of what Paul wrote to the Corinthians: “What do you have that has not been...

This saying is true for us on three levels and can be applied to each of our lives. 1. On a national level: Even 70 years after the Holocaust, Germany is still living by the gift of grace. It was the wisdom and foresight of the politicians in the post-war era not to transform Germany into an economic wasteland. The American airlift to Berlin saved our capital of today. Our country flourished economically while many other European nations are still suffering under the guilt and burden of the German occupation today. It is a fact that Greece had to suffer under the occupation by Nazi Germany and was economically plundered to the extreme. So if somebody has been given something, he has no reason whatsoever to feel superior to anybody else and to “boast”. This is surely true first and foremost for us as Germans. If only Christians were to pray continually for their European neighbors in such an attitude of humility and brokenness, the economic crises could be over sooner than we think.

The 2. level is the level of our churches and congregations. Irrespective of which stream or form we come from, state or free church, young or old, we may feel strong or superior to others, and yet we do not realize how radically we disqualify ourselves spiritually. Paul speaks to the Corinthians as apostle whom God made “last” or “least” of all (1Cor 4:9), and who is only able to live by the gift of grace. I still remember one of the most formative experiences that I had with Jesus many years ago. After a time of inner crises and defeat I heard Him say, “Never forget that whatever you will experience in the future does not happen because of your power of abilities, but is a gift from me.” We are grateful for the opening of the new TOS Church and Conference Center this year. It is no symbol of strength or power, but of our dependence on God – and it is a gift.

The 3. level is the level of our personal lives. Many people live in a “consciousness of lack”. Our lives, gifts, and abilities, our family, perhaps their church or congregation, maybe even our job, nothing is good enough anymore. We find fault with everything. On the outside, however, the picture is totally different. We seem superior, strong, and self-confident, just like the people in the church in Corinth. As a counselor, Paul writes to them: Your life, your family, even the air you breathe – everything you see, experience, and maybe even have to endure – don’t you realize that you have been given all of this by God? We live by the gift of redemption and grace of Jesus. All who gratefully accept it can actively change their “consciousness of lack” into a “consciousness of gift” and will receive Paul’s promise to the church in Philippi: “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” (Phil 4:19).

Opening Celebration for the new TOS Church and Conference Center

Over the past 18 months, many have eagerly followed the construction progress, while most of the building work was actually accomplished by the members of the church. 15 km of cables, 210 cubic meters of concrete weighing 500 tons, 56 tons of steel, 3,500 meals for the volunteers, 40,000 hours of volunteer work.

The fact that the state-of-the-art hall was finished on time and even the second phase of building the Eastern extension has already begun, has become a testimony far beyond the boundaries of Tübingen that with God all things are possible. “I can only express my envy and congratulations; and I have to tell you that the city council does not have a hall of this size and multi-media equipment,” commented Tübingen Mayor Boris Palmer on Sunday morning (you can watch the video of the official opening meeting with the <link http://vimeo.com/29030436>address by Mayor Palmer here
). Architects in Tübingen were impressed with the degree of professionalism in the construction even with all the volunteers involved.

While the weather during the final days of the construction process had been grey and dismal, just in time for the Opening Celebrations summer had a great comeback and all the families were able to enjoy the celebrations in glorious weather. For the “Open Day” many citizens of Tübingen came for guided tours of the new center. The entire weekend was a string of highlights: Paul Wilbur, one of the most famous Messianic musicians in the US, recorded his first album in German together with the first-ever choir in TOS history (DesertRain) with the new hall offering excellent acoustic conditions.
Many spiritual leaders and friends of TOS shared their prophetic perspective for the next three years. You can order the teachings by Arni Klein (Israel), Sr. Joela (Sisterhood of Mary, Germany), Carlos Jiménez (Columbia), Dr. Jeffrey Seif (USA), Wolfhard Margies (Germany), Suzette Hattingh (Germany), Harald Eckert (Germany), Howard Bass (Israel), and Geri Keller (Switzerland) via the TOS MediaShop.

Gyvybės Žygis – The March of Life Lithuania

“As a teacher, for all these years I have taught my students the wrong thing, and I didn’t even know it! The dimension of this mass murder has never been presented.” This was the comment of a participant of the March of Life in Lithuania after she had realized the historical facts at a memorial event.

From September 22–25, 2011 the March of Life took place in six different cities all across Lithuania. A team of about 30 German participants had come together with friends from the US, Belarus, and Latin America to break the veil of silence concerning the Holocaust, to ask forgiveness, and to set a clear mark against anti-Semitism. All in all, about 600 people took part in the various public events.
The Lithuanian government had declared the March of Life in Kaunas on September 23 their official program for Holocaust Memorial Day. There and in further events in Vilnius, Panevezys, Plunge, Klaipeda, and Mariampole, German and Lithuanian representatives of different Christian denominations came together with Holocaust survivors and Jewish communities. Descendants of German and Lithuanian mass murderers publicly confessed this guilt and asked forgiveness of the descendants of the victims. Many Lithuanian newspapers, internet portals, and TV stations reported on the events, and so the message of the March of Life spread across the entire country.
